Fulltime (40h/week) PhD Position in Dependence Modeling

The Department for Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces (AIHI) seeks to fill a full-time 3 year PhD position.

The successful candidate will become part of a very active research group in dependence modeling, will contribute to the basic research project ReDim: Quantifying Dependence via Dimension Reduction funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and collaborate in applied projects of the interdisciplinary IDA Lab Salzburg (see https://www.plus.ac.at/ida-lab/). He/she will be conducting his/her research under the supervision of Dr. Sebastian Fuchs and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Trutschnig.

Minimum gross monthly salary: (Salary group B1): € 3,058.60 (paid 14 times per year), with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Duration of employment: 36 month
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Hours of employment: to be agreed
Place of work: Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces at Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Hellbrunner Strasse 34, 5020 Salzburg, Austria.

Job Description: Basic and applied research in the field of probability theory/statistics/machine learning with a focus on Dependence Modeling. Independent research activity (basic research with applications, particularly in finance and insurance), including the writing and publishing of scientific research articles in international peer-review journals and active contribution in applied projects of the IDA Lab Salzburg

Profile: The applicants should have completed their master/diploma degree in mathematics or statistics focussing on probability theory/statistics and be experienced R-users.

Welcome additional qualifications: Excellent academic achievement; solid understanding in mathematical statistics and basics of machine learning; basic knowledge of dependence modeling; non-university project experience; excellent command of written and spoken English

Personality: The successful candidate has a high level of responsibility and intrinsic motivation, a commitment to scientific research, is independent and reliable, willing to engage in further education and a team player.
